RetroCalc just might be the best-looking calculator app ever made for the iPad.  This collection of 12 beautifully-redesigned calculators from the “vintage” era of the late 1970′s and early 1980′s will change the way you ‘calculate’ on your iPad.   By simply swiping a finger across the screen, users can swap between any one of a dozen classic, retro-inspired calculator “skins”.   Another swipe across the lower-portion of the screen, and users can have their choice of beautiful, HD photographic background textures.

“The coolest calculator app for the iPad”

As Michael Murray at the iPadder blog says, “RetroCalc is the coolest calculator app for the iPad.  Period”,  and adds “When are we going to get an iPhone version?”   (ed: Sometime next month, Michael!  We’re moving as fast as we can)

RetroCalc’s design team surveyed the early decade of the first handheld calculators and chose 12 of the most iconic designs from that era to re-create in 3D.    Each of these designs provided the inspiration for these beautifully rendered, realistic iPad calculators which all live inside a single iPad app:   RetroCalc.
Jennifer Kerry, of Futuremedia says,  ”There’s definitely a strong feeling of nostalgia that makes this app so appealing.   Technology moves so fast, we sometimes forget that things from just a few years back are already vintage classics.   And they’re really beautiful.  Some of these original calculator designs are really beautiful … like something from an old science-fiction movie”.

Just .99 cents!

RetroCalc’s price-point on the iTunes app store is also appealing.  The app sells for an extremely tempting .99 cents.    Not bad for an app that’s worthy of your iPad dock!
